The ‘beating heart of Turtle Island’ is the name given to the two billion year old bluffs and the tumbling rapids of the St. Louis River by the Indigenous People of North America.
Henry Oldenburg, one of the first American conservationists, built his family’s home on the land adjoining Jay Cooke State Park. The Oldenburg House hosted frequent social, artistic, and political events that shaped Minnesota’s great quality of life.
For the last fifty years, Leslie and Helen Swanson have been the devoted stewards of the Oldenburg House, placing it on the National Registry of Historic Places and preserving its unique character.
Now Glenn and Emily Swanson are renewing the Oldenburg House as an exceptional bed and breakfast inn, wedding and special event venue, and gathering place where people are drawn together by Oldenburg’s ancient and uplifting energy.

Once a month Oldenburg House transforms itself into a small, intimate jazz club for a weekend of jazz and blues. the Carlton Room
The Carlton Room affords us a more robust music and art schedule as does the planned outdoor stage
We are inviting our brides and grooms back to say thank you and spend a Saturday at Oldenburg. At that time, we will also host a bridal show in the afternoon to introduce our newly improved venue to the community.
An outdoor wedding at Oldenburg House has a history of being a sacred and most special experience. Building upon that tradition, Oldenburg House plans significant improvements to elevate it as the premier outdoor wedding venue of Minnesota. Infrastructure upgrades, driveway and parking facilities, outdoor bathrooms, patio, landscaping, lighting, stage, full wedding planning services, tent and equipment rental, music services and much more – including improvements made to accommodations within the house. Our vision is to host a maximum of 6 weddings a year to minimize strain on the property and allow us to give our full attention to each and every Oldenburg Wedding.
